Legendary Programs

North Carolina and Duke are two of the biggest and best programs in all of college basketball. Duke has won the National Championship four times, has been the runner-up six times, has won 19 ACC championships and 19 ACC regular season titles. The Blue Devils has 36 players named All-Americans and 11 players named National Players of the Year.

The Tar Heels have won six national championships (if anyone tells you it is five, they are lying,) and have won 17 ACC tournament titles and 29 ACC regular season championships. Additionally, Carolina has been to the Final Four 18 different times, most recently in 2008 and 2009.

This rivalry isn’t just a bi-annual matchup of two terrible programs, or one great program and one mediocre one, like the UNC N.C. State rivalry. This is a matchup of two of the best programs in college basketball. No other rivalry has that kind of resume for each team.
