Legendary Coaches
The North Carolina Duke rivalry has featured some of the biggest names in coaching for the last 50 years. First, it was Dean Smith vs. Mike Krzyzewski and now Roy vs. Coach K. Even though this is a UNC fan blog, we have to acknowledge that Coach K is a pretty darn good coach, if only for the sheer number of wins he has amassed at the Duke. (You may have heard — he won his 1000th game a few weeks ago.)
North Carolina’s coaches aren’t too shabby either. Roy Williams has won two national championships in Chapel Hill, in 2005 with Sean May, Raymond Felton and Rashad errr… and with Marvin Williams, and in 2009 with Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington. And of course, Dean Smith coached against Duke for many years and held a 51-29 record against the Blue Devils.
The UNC Duke rivalry has been heightened by all the great coaches that have led the teams over the years.
