#4 Aaron Crawford
Crawford is a four-star defensive tackle according to Scout.com out of Ashburn, Virginia. Crawford plays defensive tackle and weighs in at 6’2”, 300 pounds. Crawford is an explosive tackle who will be able to come in right away for the Tar Heels and make an impact on the field. Crawford was not one of the 10 early enrollees for the Tar Heels though, so he will have his hands full adjusting to North Carolina’s new scheme when he gets on campus in the summer. Remember, last year, UNC didn’t hesitate to play true freshman Tyler Powell, a similar player to Crawford, as the season went along before he got hurt. Crawford could follow in the footsteps of Powell and possibly play some big snaps down the stretch run of the season for the Heels.
It will be interesting to see how Crawford will fit schematically for the Tar Heels. North Carolina is bringing in new defensive coordinator Gene Chizik this season, and I’m sure Chizik is excited to work with Crawford and get him on the field to make an impact.
However, Crawford could be a very useful piece on the inside of the line for the Heels as soon as this season, and certainly for years to come.
