There are a few moments that define Carolina basketball. There is Michael Jordan’s game winner against Georgetown, Marvin Williams’ and-one put-back against Duke in 2005, and a few others. But every time a UNC fan sees Jerry Stackhouse’s monstrous, and-one reverse against Duke, their eyes light up.
While Jerry Stackhouse is etched in North Carolina’s memory with that single play, he is also one of the greatest players to ever play at North Carolina because of his overall talent. Stackhouse was a consensus first-team All-American in 1995, as well as an All-ACC choice that same year. He was Sports Illustrated’s National Player of the Year in 1995, and was the third player selected in the 1995 NBA Draft. He had the ability of scoring from the perimeter with an accurate three-point shot and even had the ability to fly high and jam it down emphatically. He walked around with a confidence that positively affected his team, and just like other greats, he never backed down from the big stage. Stackhouse was talented, athletic, and iconic, and because of this, he is considered one of the greatest UNC basketball players of all-time.
