2. Jack Cobb (1924-26)

“Known as ‘Mr. Basketball,’ Cobb was a 6-2 forward who could do it all.  [He was] a slick passer and a great rebounder in addition to being a scoring threat.” –2004-05 Tar Heel Basketball Media Guide

Another of the eight Tar Heels with jerseys retired, Cobb was the national player of the year in 1926, and led UNC to a national championship in 1924.  Detailed stats were not really kept when Cobb played, so I couldn’t find how many rebounds Cobb got per game, but he did scored fifteen points per game.  This probably doesn’t sound like much, but this was at a time when UNC scored just 35 points per contest.  Percentage-wise, that’s the same as if somebody had averaged 33 points per game last season.  Cobb also was a three-time all-American at UNC, and the first Tar Heel to accomplish that feat.
