5. J.R. Reid (1987-89)

Reid was a three-year star at Carolina who was a three-time all-ACC selection and was also an all-American in 1989.  Reid averaged 16.2 points per game and 7.6 rebounds.  He also shot a very impressive 60% from the field.

The blemish on Reid’s resume, and the reason he is not ranked higher on this list, is the fact that he was never able to lead UNC to a Final Four.  Yes, championships depend on a lot of things, but the truly great players are able to win no matter what.
