2. Al Wood, 1977-81

Wood was one of the all-time greatest shooters at UNC.  In fact, the Tar Heels’ long-time radio announcer Woody Durham said that Wood had the best shot he had ever seen.  In his career at Carolina, he shot a very solid 56%, including 60.4% his freshman season.

“Of all the UNC players I’ve seen, Al Wood was the very best shooter. … Wood has to be No. 1–his shot was so pure.  –Woody Durham, Tar Heels’ long-time radio announcer

In his four-year career at UNC, Wood never missed a single game, playing in 126 games for the Heels.  Wood averaged 16 points a game, and is fifth on UNC’s all-time scoring list.  He was a second team all-American in his senior season and was drafted fourth overall in the NBA draft.
