1) Phil Ford #12 (1974-1978)

When you think of North Carolina basketball, you think of Dean Smith, Michael Jordan, and Phil Ford. When you think of Phil Ford, you think of the four corners offense, which was an offense that relied on Ford to get to the basket and draw attention from essentially the entire opposing defense.  And for one player to dictate an offense like Ford did, and to do it so effectively, is almost unfathomable.

Ford was the first player under Dean Smith to start as a freshman. He left Carolina as the all-time leading scorer, was a 3-time All-American, and the 1978 Consensus Player of the Year.  Ford earned first-team All-ACC accolades in 1975, 1976, and 1977.

Phil Ford was one of the greatest point guards to ever play college basketball. His talent, passion, and composure is unmatched by any Tar Heel.  He is not just North Carolina’s best all-time point guard, he is Carolina basketball.
