4) Kenny Smith #30 (1983-1987)

Kenny “The Jet” Smith played with intelligence, confidence, and discipline, starting all four years at Carolina, and leading the Heels to 3 ACC regular season championships. He played with speed and athleticism and is best known for his proficiency on the fast break, finding teammates for open layups but not afraid to jam it in himself.

Smith averaged 12.9 ppg and 6.0 apg over the course of his career. In 1987, Smith led the Heels with 16.9 point per game and 209 assists, and set a record with 86 assists in NCAA tournament play.  The Jet finished his career at North Carolina number one in all-time assists (768) and steals (195), and in his tenure was named first-team All ACC and was a consensus first-team All-American.

Unlike many other UNC greats, however, Smith was successful in the NBA as well. He is still Houston’s all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage at .407 and won two NBA Championships with the Rockets in 1994 and 1995.

Kenny Smith is currently an NBA studio analyst for TNT sports.
