The special teams units did a great job of pinning San Diego State deep in their own territory.  Kicker Nick Weiler had a touchback on every kickoff except for one.  On the one that wasn’t a touchback, San Diego State’s return man was tackled at the 11.  So it’s not like Tar Heel fans were mad he didn’t kick it out of the endzone.  Punter Tommy Hibbard also did a very good job, pinning the Aztecs inside the twenty three times in five punts.

The only thing bad that happened on special teams was a Thomas Moore missed field goal.  So far, Moore is 0-for-2 this season, which would be concerning if Nick Weiler wasn’t his back-up.  Weiler made a short field goal and three extra points against San Diego State.
