The 2005-2006 season was a rebuilding season for the Tar Heels. They lost four key players as first round picks in the NBA Draft, but did bring in some solid recruits. One of those recruits turned out to be a UNC legend.
The signature moment of the 2005-2006 season came in the final regular season game at Duke. It was senior night and Carolina had no shot. Until a freshman from Missouri named Tyler Hansbrough made his entrance into college basketball. Hansbrough made several key plays including a late 3-pointer that burried the Blue Devils.
Hansbrough sported the Air Jordan Melo 5.5 in a Carolina Blue and white colorway throughout the season, as he started to leave his mark on UNC Basketball.
