Tar Heels topple Eagles to tip off easiest ACC stretch
For a frustrated team, there’s no better tonic than Boston College. The Tar Heels traveled to Chestnut Hill, Mass., last night to face a 9-11 opponent. The anemic, announced crowd of 7,062 — a very UNC-friendly crowd, to boot — witnessed a casual 82-70 victory for the Tar Heels and a frightening concussion suffered by Carolina sophomore P.J. Hairston. (Independent Weekly)

The Ballad Of P.J. Hairston
P.J. Hairston is second in the ACC in Points Per Minute scored, second only to the nation’s leading scorer in Virginia Tech’s Erik Green. Naturally a counterpoint could be that this is because of UNC’s pace, and with four Tar Heels in the top 10, one might have a point. But not if you go deeper. (Chapelboro.com)

Talking points: Pack & Heels back to the grind
A quick scan of ACC conference records makes it painfully obvious NC State just hasn’t been a very good program in the last 20 years. The Wolfpack failed to notch more than six wins in league play until Herb Sendek’s “breakthrough” 9-7 season in 2001-02. (WRAL Sports Fan)

Big 12 expansion: FSU, Clemson, Louisville ID’d as potential candidates
The Big 12 conference identified several candidates for new teams, including the Florida St. Seminoles, Clemson Tigers and Louisville Cardinals. With Big 12 expansion, it could all depend on what fellow big conferences like the Big Ten and the ACC end up doing. The calculus of the Big 12 seems to be that the Big Ten will look at schools like Virginia, North Carolina, Pitt and Duke. (SB Nation)

UNC Basketball Recruiting: A Closer Look At Isaiah Hicks
Isaiah Hicks PF 5 stars 6-8, 210 Oxford, NC Webb Hicks is often forgotten when discussing Carolina recruiting prospects because everybody’s attention is on where the uncommitted prospects will go. Given the maturity of his game, don’t be surprised if he’s one of the top freshman in the 2013 class. Here’s a closer look. (Keeping It Heel)

UNC Basketball: McDonald, Tokoto Must Step Up After Hairston Concussion
UNC basketball sustained a big blow when P.J. Hairston hit the floor during its 82-70 win over Boston College.
The sophomore guard out of Greensboro, NC, was diagnosed with a concussion after colliding with teammate, Dexter Strickland. With the possibility of Hairston missing a couple games, it will be on Leslie McDonald and J.P. Tokoto to step up in his absence. (Bleacher Report)
