UNC Recruiting: Tar Heels Stimulus Package

Hey guys another week of UNC sports means another week of UNC recruiting!  A lot has happened in the closing stretches of the the football recruiting season.  To start off number one football recruit in the class of 2014 defensive end Da’Shawn Hand listed UNC in his top five schools.  Hand loved the coaching staff being energetic and showing great chemistry with one another.  Hand said he is looking for a good fun family atmosphere and how well he can get along with the coaching staff and players.  Hand also listed Michigan, South Carolina, Alabama, and Virginia Tech.

Another big time prospect in the running for the Heels is wide receiver Marquez North from Charlotte.  North was between UNC, Tennessee, and Clemson but he just cancelled his official to Clemson so it is back down to the Vols and Heels once more.  Marquez has always visited UNC and has loved every visit.  North also loved his visits to Tennssee.  North just recently got back from Knoxville from an official and said nothing but good things.  Marquez loved the new coaching staff and talking to the players.  Even though he didn’t see a football game this time he enjoyed it better just to see what the team and staff do on a day to day schedule.  North will announce on signing day.

The last prospect I am listing is defensive back Korrin Wiggins.  Korrin has been committed to the Tar Heels for about a year and has now reopened his recruitment after his visit to Clemson.  Wiggins is listed as a three star so he wouldn’t be a major loss for the Heels but we will find out where he lies on signing day in a month.

After all the prospects UNC landed another commitment from Mikey Bart a hybrid defensive end and tight end.    Bart was committed to South Florida when he was unsure of the scholarship situation with the Heels.  Assistant coach Deke Adams called the young man and secured his commitment as a defensive end.  Bart has all of the tools to be dangerous at 6’3 245.  He is a very mobile runner since playing tight end in high school so look for Bart to be a threat to back fields everywhere in the ACC.

In basketball Roy has continued to be on the move.  The biggest news of the week is Joel Berry taking his official visit to the UNC this weekend as the Heels take on Maryland.  Joel Berry is continuing to impress after coming off of his torn meniscus.  Like Paige and Britt, Berry is able to score and get to the basket and score in many different ways.  Carolina is said to be a favorite, but Florida coach Billy Donovan just visited Berry and his family had lots of great things to say of the coach.  His uncle said the meeting was very informative.  Another visit this week is on the 16th.

Coach Roy Williams is heading to Houston to talk to Justin Jackson in an in home visit.  Jackson is a small forward that can play big like a power.  He has been listed as 6’6-6’8 depending on which source you look at.  Jackson has been playing against the best as of recent including small forward Justise Winslow.  Jackson finished the game with 34 over the other Carolina offer.  2013 commit Kennedy Meeks has recently tweeted at both players telling the stars he hopes both commit soon.  Jackson said his final list is now down to Ohio State, Texas A&M, UVA, Washington, Arizona, and UNC.

Another future prospect has come up in 2015, Brandon Ingram is a 6’7 small forward from Kinston, North Carolina.  Ingram is a defensive minded player who can block shots with great skill and timing.  Ingram can also get to the basket with great skill.  If offered to UNC, Ingram would join the likes of Jerry Stackhouse, Reggie Bullock, and Quinton Coples to join the UNC family.  Last Andrew Wiggins has continued to dominate.  Wiggins recently scored 28 points on ESPN right after UNC beat Florida State.  The FSU win was very important to the Heels who still have a chance at landing the forward.  Stay tuned for another week of recruiting.
