After countdown, UNC-N.C. State week finally here
Before he coached his first game at North Carolina, Larry Fedora made clear he understood the significance of the Tar Heels’ rivalry with N.C. State. Fedora said on Monday that he has continued to count down the days to UNC’s game against N.C. State – a game that finally arrives on Saturday. It has been a countdown, really, to the Tar Heels’ chance at redemption – a countdown, Fedora and his players hope, to a reckoning. Raleigh News
Winning the Point of Attack
Larry Fedora’s potent spread offense has enthralled viewers across the ACC landscape with its scoring and yardage outputs. The effort and intensity behind that scheme, however, may play a more significant role on Saturday when North Carolina hosts rival N.C. State. UNC ranks third in the ACC and 21st nationally in scoring offense. N.C. State counters with the 28th-ranked scoring defense. IC
Statements on Rashad’s Suspension
Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham: “We are certainly glad that Conner Vernon was not injured. I spoke to Shakeel in the locker room after the game and he was obviously upset about making contact, but insisted that it unintentional. We are disappointed with the decision to suspend him for a game. I don’t understand how the conference can suspend a player who was involved in such an unusual play without speaking to him.” GoHeels
Wolfpack gets set for UNC back Gio Bernard
There’s no need to explain to N.C. State the value of North Carolina running back Gio Bernard. The Wolfpack defense knows the best way to beat the Tar Heels is to hold Bernard in check. That’s what happened last year when the two teams met in Raleigh, a 13-0 N.C. State win. But Bernard has been even better in coach Larry Fedora’s spread offense than he was a year ago when he became UNC’s first 1,000-yard rusher since 1997. Raleigh News
Shakeel Rashad suspended one game for collision with Duke receiver
Following the UNC-Duke game, UNC freshman linebacker Shakeel Rashad received a one-game suspension for his dangerous collision against an unsuspecting Duke player during a substitution in the second quarter. Head linesman Tyrone Davis and side judge Angie Bartis have been issued one-game suspensions for failure to adhere to correct mechanics of the game and rules related to player safety. The ACC

CBSSports.com Pre-Season Top 50 point guards
45. Marcus Paige, North Carolina: He’s a left-handed point guard, but he’s not the same player as Kendall Marshall. Although Paige doesn’t have Marshall’s passing ability, he can create his own shot and also knock down shots from deep. Good IQ and sense of pace. CBS
