Kyle Seager does his version of Manny Machado fake
Watching the Mariners’ game last night, you might have had a feeling of deja vu in the fourth inning, when Kyle Seager made a very heady play to seemingly help Felix Hernandez out of a jam. The game was tied 2-2, one out, Rajai Davis on second. Jeff Mathis dropped a bunt down the third-base line. Seager charged, pump-faked to first, whirled and caught Davis, who had rounded the bag, off third base. (Seattle Times)
UNC, NC State continue to progress
The Heels return home to face an East Carolina team always hungry to prove a point against their in-state rivals. “They’re a rabid bunch, they’re excited they’re rowdy,” joked North Carolina offensive guard Jonathan Cooper. “It makes for an exciting atmosphere.” After a dazzling debut, Geo Bernard hasn’t played since halftime of the Heels’ season opener and his status remains a question mark this week. UNC faculty wants Holden Thorp to stay
Professors and other employees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are trying to persuade Chancellor Holden Thorp to change his mind about resigning in the face of multiple scandals. About 250 faculty members of North Carolina’s flagship public university approved a resolution Tuesday declaring that Thorp “remains the best person to lead our university through these challenging times.” (Fayetteville Observer)
All-time games between Top 10 ACC football teams
When No. 10 Clemson travels to play No. 4 Florida State on Saturday night in Tallahassee, the game will mark the ninth meeting between ACC teams ranked in the Top 10. Clemson and North Carolina played the first game between Top 10 ACC teams in 1981. No. 2 Clemson defeated No. 10 North Carolina 10-8 score, and the Tigers went on to win the national championship that year. (ESPN.com)
Pirates fans gobbling up tickets for Saturday’s game at UNC
It appears as though there might be lot of purple in the Blue Zone on Saturday when North Carolina hosts neighboring rival East Carolina. The Pirates’ ticket office put out a release on Tuesday announcing that it has exhausted all of the 3,500 tickets it was allotted to the 3:30 p.m. game at Kenan Stadium. (Wilmington Star News)
UNC to Watch Sophomore SG Malachi Richardson
Tyler Roberson isn’t the only player at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic High School pulling high-major coaches into the gym. Malachi Richardson, a 6-foot-5 2015 shooting guard, is drawing some attention, too. North Carolina assistant Hubert Davis is expected to come in within the next two weeks, and Indiana, West Virginia, Ohio State, Miami, Auburn and Florida are also coming in, head coach Dave Boff told SNY.tv. UNC Basketball Recruiting 2013: Tar Heels Staff Busy with in-Home Visits
