Rough weekend for Triangle football teams
After not missing any opportunities in Week 1 against Elon, North Carolina left some points on the field Saturday in Winston-Salem, allowing Wake Forest to manufacture a late drive and steal a 28-27 victory. Even though the Tar Heels were without their top offensive weapon in running back Gio Bernard, many might look at the result and shrug. In reality the game was one North Carolina should have won. Bitter defeat for Tar Heel football
Coach Larry Fedora’s motto is “play smart, play fast and play physical.” North Carolina didn’t live up to the first part of that message in Saturday’s 28-27 loss at Wake Forest. It was about validation. “I think it’s good that I got to his record, because he’s a really good kicker,” Casey said after kicking his 54th and 55th career three-pointers in the Tar Heels’ 28-27 loss to Wake Forest. Wake Forest 28, North Carolina 27: The look back
North Carolina coach Larry Fedora said it best: This loss provided a good indication of how far the Tar Heels have yet to go. They played well in stretches on Saturday, and there were plenty of bright spots. But mistakes – both penalties and lapses in execution both offensively and defensively – was the difference between victory and defeat. (Raleigh News & Observer)
