UNC Football: Examining the 2013 Recruiting Class
By Editorial Staff
Running Back: Khris Francis was the first player in the 2013 class to commit to the Tar Heels. He committed during the UNC-Duke basketball game where Larry Fedora held Junior Day for players in North Carolina. In case you missed it, his mother captured this moment on video and it has become a huge hit on YouTube for those who follow North Carolina football. Along with North Carolina, Francis has received scholarship offers from other schools such as Tennessee, Clemson, Syracuse, and Duke.
Khris attends Hillside High School in Durham NC where he plays running back and is the star of their offense. This year Hillside finished 11-2 and Francis racked up 2,251 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. These impressive stats have earned him a four star rating on ESPN as well as other recruiting websites. Coach Fedora and staff have nicknamed him Batman and fellow teammate and recruit Korrin Wiggins nicknamed Robin.
Wide Receiver: Jordan Fieulleteau earned his scholarship from the Tar Heels at a camp last summer after proving to the North Carolina coaching staff that he is one of the best wide receivers in the entire state. After this offer, Jordan considered UNC to be his favorite all the way through his entire recruitment leading up to his commitment. After contemplating over it for many weeks he made it official by committing to North Carolina on Tuesday, February 15th with a phone call to Larry Fedora. For more on this story check out Jordan’s recruiting blog of the day he committed. Jordan has also been given scholarship offers from schools such as East Carolina and Duke.
Jordan goes to school right outside Raleigh at Wakefield High School. He had a breakout season for the Wolverines where he reeled in 86 catches for 1,200 yards. To go along with that he had 24 receiving touchdowns which led the nation for all wide receivers. Despite his performance, Wakefield took an early exit in the state playoffs to Laney High School and finished the season 9-3 but are favored to make it all the way to the state championship in the upcoming season. Recently, Jordan was named to the ESPN 300 list, which is a list of the top 300 players in the country where he is considered to be the 264th best player in the nation and a four star prospect.
Quarterback: After growing up as a Ohio State Buckeye fan, Mitch Trubisky considered Ohio State to be one of his top schools throughout the recruiting process. However, after the Buckeyes signed a different quarterback he narrowed his list down to Alabama, UNC, and Michigan State. Trubisky then made a visit down to North Carolina on the 19th of May, where he fell in love with the program and committed to the Tar Heels the next day before returning home to Mentor, Ohio. He has received offers from 11 other schools.
Many consider Mitch to be the best prospect in this very talented North Carolina class. He is a four star Quarterback prospect and is projected to be five stars by the end of next season. This year he led Mentor High School to a 11-2 record and racked up very impressive stats. He threw for 3,850 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. Trubisky also recorded 650 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns proving how much of a dual threat quarterback he is. When comparing Trubisky to the North Carolina offense, many have gone as far to say that if Larry Fedora could create a player to perfectly fit his offense, Trubisky would fit that role.
Offensive Tackle: Although he was once committed to the Clemson Tigers, RJ Prince couldn’t resist joining the North Carolina dream team which he likes to call, “NCDT13.” His previous commitment to Clemson took place at a game in October last fall and then he decided to decommit after many great visits to UNC. After he decommitted, he narrowed things down to three in-state schools: UNC, Duke, and NC State. Prince then decided to commit the Tar Heels by making it official with a surprise visit to Larry Fedora at 6:15 in the morning. Ever since becoming a Tar Heel, RJ has become one of the ringleaders of the class recruiting many players to join the North Carolina Dream Team and has done an incredible job doing it.
RJ is an 6-8, 300 pound, offensive tackle out of Albemarle, North Carolina where he plays for his school, Albemarle High School. This year Albemarle finished the season with an impressive record of 13-2. RJ played a key role in this talented offense where he turned defensive lines into a ocean of running room when blocking for his running back. He also participates in writing journals about his recruitment if you wish to find out more about RJ and his football career.
