Matt KIH: PassFir5t is relatively new how did the idea of the website come to fruit so quickly?

The website was something we had been working on in the early goings of the movement because their were so many questions about what PassFir5t was. Our initial PassFir5t.com site was simply a fundraising page on the St.Baldricks site that allowed people to donate money, we wanted, however, to create something bigger that showcased the outstanding amounts of pictures we received, and show our appreciation for the people of PassFir5t Nation which is what we ended up doing. Overall, building the website was easy because the fans contributed everything that we needed; all we had to do was compile it and get it on the web.

Matt KIH: Have you always been involved in charity work or did the PassFir5t movement inspire you to start this operation from scratch?

Members of our team have been involved with charity work, so we do have prior experience. However, we had never started or even dreamed of creating something that would draw as much attention as PassFir5t. So in some ways the PassFir5t movement did inspire us to kind of start from scratch.

In the beginning stages of #PassFir5t we gained a lot of followers, however, we also heard a lot of people that were questioning what if #PassFir5t could be something more, than just hoping our favorite point guard could play on Friday, or Sunday. So, that actually got us thinking, lets take the whole thing a step further. We felt that #PassFir5t could become an example of how one should live their life.

So now we use the name #PassFir5t in order to promote the idea of selflessness and putting others before one’s self, much like Kendall does every time he steps on the court.  We would like to leverage the energy and impact that #PassFir5t has gained from Twitter and Facebook to promote these ideals and encourage people to do things in their communities.

The first step to doing this, was setting up a quick meeting with Basebald, in which the owner of Basebald was shocked to find out who had started #PassFir5t. We told him we wanted to team up, we shook hands, and within 24hrs we had raised $2000 to go towards kids fighting cancer at the hospitals on the campus of UNC.

Matt KIH: Tell us about your current projects and how fans from Tar Heel Nation can unite and help out.

We have a variety of current projects on our site that range from raising money for childhood cancer through Basebald to raising money to build schools in Kenya with Uhuru Child. Again, with our site we want to create a central hub for fans to come to and find something they’re passionate about and make a difference in some else’s life. We understand that fans love UNC and what better way to spread Carolina pride than by living the “Carolina Way.” Fans can do what we call “going for the assist” by clicking onto PassFir5t.com and finding a cause, spreading the word on twitter, or Facebook or most importantly by simply making a difference.
