"Tyler Zeller scored 27 points to help North Carolina fight off UNC Asheville 91-75 Sunday in the debut of the Bulldogs’ new Kimmel Arena. Less than 48 hours after beating Michigan State on the deck of the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego, the Tar Heels (2-0) shot 59 percent from the field and overcame some early turnover troubles to win a rare in-state, non-conference game in coach Roy Williams’ hometown. UNC-UNC Asheville: Postgame Quotes & Audio
"Opening comments: “We’re very pleased with the outcome. Probably like {UNC Asheville head coach] Eddie [Biedenbach], I would have liked to have played better and I’m sure he would have liked for his club to play better, but it is early in the season. The biggest thing for us was the three-time zone thing trying to get ourselves back into what would be normal and we don’t feel like we’re that.” (Inside Carolina)"

Road-Weary Tar Heels Topple Bulldogs
"No. 1 North Carolina completed its season-opening five-day road trip with a 91-75 victory over UNC Asheville at its new Kimmel Arena on Sunday. Tyler Zeller scored a game-high 27 points to go along with eight rebounds, while John Henson posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. (Inside Carolina)"
A homecoming, but not, for Roy Williams
"North Carolina coach Roy Williams will always have a soft spot for UNC Asheville’s old Justice Center, where he used to play pickup ball in high school. “It was a good gym to shoot in; I just felt like I shot it very well every time I played up there,’’ Williams remembered recently. He’s hoping he has the same feeling about the Bulldogs’ new stadium, Kimmel Arena, when the Tar Heels help open it today. (ESPN.com)"
Bobby Cremins: North Carolina’s Roy Williams deserves more credit for scheduling generosity
"Dean Smith’s philosophy was to avoid playing non-conference games against in-state opponents, but Roy Williams doesn’t mind them as long as the games are in Chapel Hill. “If we have something extremely special like opening up a new arena, the good thing about policies is they can change,” Williams said. Bobby Cremins said Williams doesn’t receive enough credit for that approach. (Fayetteville Observer)"
Carolina Field Hockey Headed For Final Four
"For the third year in a row and 16th time in program history, the North Carolina field hockey team is headed for the final four. Henry Stadium to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday in Louisville, Ky. (Tar Heel Blue)"
UNC Tops Boston College in ACC Men’s Soccer Championship Final
"The North Carolina men’s soccer team has made a nice living off its defense lately, but the Tar Heels are apparently not precluded from putting the ball in the back of the net. Ben Speas, who had scored twice all season before Sunday, delivered two goals and assisted the third as top-seeded UNC defeated Boston College 3-1 to claim the program’s third ACC Tournament championship. Rapid Reaction: UNC-UNC Asheville
"After playing two games on two coasts in less than 48 hours, the Tar Heels get to go home 2-0. UNC played a sloppy first half, turning the ball over nine times and allowing Asheville to get within a bucket about five minutes before halftime. But after finishing the opening 20 minutes with a 10-3 run, the Tar Heels quickly expanded on their 48-39 halftime lead. (ESPN.com)"
No. 20 Tar Heel Women Rout USC Upstate, 91-34
"The first few games of the season for No. 20 North Carolina seem to be a clear chance for coach Sylvia Hatchell to test her team’s depth. And that continued in the Tar Heels’ second game of the season on Sunday. Freshman Brittany Rountree, who made her first start, had 15 points while senior forward Laura Broomfield added 13 in a 91-34 romp over South Carolina Upstate. (Tar Heel Blue)"
