The UNC Football program will be honored through Mack Brown and Julius Peppers as both will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame

Two members of the North Carolina Tar Heels football program will be honored by the state of North Carolina.

Former Tar Heels star Julius Peppers and current head coach Mack Brown will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, the museum announced on Wednesday. Brown and Peppers will join the late Dennis Craddock, who coached track and field at North Carolina for 27 years until retiring in 2012.

Being inducted with Brown, Peppers and Craddock will be seven other members to make up the 2020 class:  Debbie Antonelli, Muggsy Bogues,  Dr. Charles Kernodle, Mac Morris, Trot Nixon,Bobby Purcell, Judy Rose, Tim Stevens and Donnell Woolford.

The 57th annual banquet will take place on May 1 at the Raleigh Convention Center and inductees will have significant objects and memorabilia donated to the Hall of Fame which is located in the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh.

Peppers had a monster career at North Carolina before going on to play 15 years in the NFL after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. He led all of college football with 15 sacks during the 2000 season and a UNC single-season record of 24 tackles for loss. He will also see his name in the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he’s eligible.

For Brown, he’s making his second stint as head coach of North Carolina returning after coaching the Tar Heels from 1988-97 before leaving to take the Texas job. He returned in 2019 and led the Tar Heels to a 7-6 record and their first bowl win since 2013.

Brown’s 251 career victories rank ninth all time on the FBS list.

Craddock was inducted into the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame since 2013. He won 45 ACC championships while coaching 25 Tar Heels to 38 NCAA Championship performances while at North Carolina.
