The official roster for the 2017-18 UNC Men’s Basketball team has been announced

We are officially under 70 days until the start of the 2017-18 college basketball and that means the return of the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels will defend their NCAA title after winning number six by beating Gonzaga down in Phoenix last April.

The program has announced that the title defense will begin with a home game against Northern Iowa on Nov. 10 and proceeded to release the rest of the non-conference schedule.

UNC lost a lot from their 2016-17 title team including starters Justin Jackson, Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks. Role players Tony Bradley Jr. and Nate Britt are also gone from the roster.

So what does the 2017-18 roster look like? The program revealed it on Monday including jersey numbers for each player.

Check out the official roster below in numerical order:

  • 0 Seventh Woods (So.)
  • 1 Theo Pinson (Sr.)
  • 2 Joel Berry II (Sr.)
  • 3 Andrew Platek (Fr.)
  • 4 Brandon Robinson (So.)
  • 5 Jalek Felton (Fr.)
  • 11 Shea Rush (So.)
  • 13 Cameron Johnson (Grad-Sr.)
  • 15 Garrison Brooks (Fr.)
  • 21 Sterling Manley (Fr.)
  • 22 Walker Miller (Fr.)
  • 24 Kenny Williams III (Jr.)
  • 25 Aaron Rohlman (Sr.)
  • 30 KJ Smith (So.)
  • 32 Luke Maye (Jr.)
  • 42 Brandon Huffman (Fr.)

As you can see, UNC’s 2017 freshman class consists of six recruits. Jalek Felton, Garrison Brooks, Sterling Manley, Brandon Huffman, Andrew Platek and Walker Miller are all new to the squad this year.

Miller is the younger brother of former UNC guard Wes Miller and will walk-on with the program this year.

New additions also include transfer KJ Smith who is the son of former UNC standout Kenny Smith and graduate transfer Cameron Johnson from Pitt.

One of UNC’s biggest returning pieces is point guard Joel Berry who will run the offense again for head coach Roy Williams. Berry was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2017 Final Four.

Other players returning from that team are Seventh Woods, Brandon Robinson, Kenny Williams, Shea Rush, Aaron Rohlman, Luke Maye and Theo Pinson.

Woods has changed his jersey number from 21 to 0 for his sophomore season and Robinson has switched from 14 to 4.
