Luke Maye, Joel Berry II, Justin Jackson named to All-South Region Team

After a superb Regional Final that saw North Carolina and Kentucky go down to the wire, three Tar Heels and two Wildcats have been named to the All-South Region Team.

Sophomore power forward Luke Maye, junior All-American Justin Jackson and All-ACC point guard Joel Berry II each earned a spot on the All-South Region Team.

Kentucky’s freshman point guard DeAaron Fox and sophomore forward Isaac Humphries were the Wildcat’s representatives on the team.

Luke Maye, the South Region’s Most Outstanding Player, averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per contest during the first four games of the tournament. And his game-winning shot against Kentucky propelled the Tar Heels to their NCAA-record 20th Final Four.

Joel Berry, who’s suffered multiple ankle sprains over the last two weeks, has played through pain and adversity in order to give the Tar Heels their best opportunity to stave off elimination and advance beyond the tournament’s first two weekends.

Justin Jackson, the ACC Player of the Year and first team All-American, has averaged 20.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists while playing 33 minutes per game during the first four rounds. He’s been the Tar Heels’ most consistent scoring threat and best all-around player.

DeAaron Fox’s 39 points against UCLA helped the Wildcats down the South Region’s No. 3 seed and advance to play the Tar Heels in the Elite 8. He’s likely played his final college game, as the probability of him entering the 2017 NBA Draft is high.

And had it not been for the Tar Heels’ late rally and Luke Maye’s last-second heroics, Isaac Humphries would probably have been the hero for the Wildcats. He kept Kentucky in the game with his mid-range jump shot, scoring a season-high 12 points.
