Another week of ACC Football, another round of Coastal Division Power Rankings

Trick or Treat.

That’s the famous phrase of Halloween. The idea being “give me some candy or I’ll egg your house later.” This past weekend was like that for the various conferences. Some teams got some candy (a win), others got their houses egged (a loss).

Let’s start as always in the Big Ten. Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State walked out with some candy.

Michigan State and previously undefeated Nebraska got egged. The biggest treat may be Penn State. If the Nittany Lions win out and the Buckeyes beat Michigan, there will be a three way tie with no easy tie breaker. After all the talk of the importance of “The Game” how crazy would that be?

Out in the Pac-12, it is the state of Washington handing out the Candy. Washington and Washington State are both undefeated in conference play.

If they can both keep that up the Pac 12 north will be decided in the annual Apple Cup. The Huskies are undefeated. The Cougars two losses are by a combined six points.

Of course one of those losses was to FCS Eastern Washington. Maybe that’s the trick if Wazzu wins the Pac-12.

In the Big 12, the conference is all out of tricks. The whole conference got egged this weekend when both Baylor and West Virginia lost. Being the only Power five group without an undefeated team means they are all on the outside looking in.

In the SEC, Alabama is the treat of the nation.

The Crimson Tide didn’t even play this week yet continued to look strong. As they idled in Tuscaloosa, four other previously unbeaten teams came crashing down to earth. The trick may be on poor Ole Miss.

The Rebels may be one of the 15 best teams in the country but already have four losses this season. The latest came against red hot Auburn. In that matchup, Chad Kelly set the school record for passing yards but still lost.

In the ACC Atlantic, there were tricks and treats. Louisville and Clemson treated the nation to narrow escapes on the road. Florida State and NC State got tricked in to heart breaking losses. The biggest treat may have come for Boston College who won their first conference game in their last 13 tries. If you count the basketball season, where the Eagles also went winless, the last time the Eagles won a conference game was March 7th, 2015.

Of course the biggest treat is the CFP committee releases their first rankings of the season on Nov 1st. So with all that in line, lets see how the ACC football effected the Coastal this time around.
