Despite skepticism that met a former governor’s findings last month, athletes weren’t the main beneficiaries of academic fraud at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a consultant who looked further into the data said Friday. (Associated Press)

Baseball Media Day: Mike Fox
Head coach Mike Fox met with the media before the first Diamond Heels practice of the season on Friday. Fox’s team enters the 2013 campaign with a national No. 1 ranking from Baseball America and Perfect Game. “It is a preseason poll. We all know what that means. P.J. Hairston Thriving as UNC’s Sixth Man
The concept of the sixth man in basketball is based around an extremely talented player sacrificing minutes for the better of the team, knowing that his role is to lead the second unit and provide energy when the starters aren’t clicking quite the way they should. North Carolina’s P.J. Hairston has thrived in this role and his play has told the story of the Tar Heels’ season as well as any. (Rush the Court)

Rashad Vaughn: ‘Never satisfied’
In between shooting simulated jumpers in NBA2K13, Rashad Vaughn imagined what it would be like to have his name on an NBA roster. The 16-year old Cooper junior, wearing a school sweatshirt with “Mr. Showtime” plastered on the back, still has several years until that is even a possibility. But his big imagination motivates him. “I ain’t never satisfied,” Vaughn said. “If I can’t be No. 1 [in recruit ratings], I have to be No. 1 in the draft.” (Minneapolis Star Tribune)

Breaking down the Andrew Wiggins recruitment
Andrew Wiggins doesn’t seem close to making a decision. Word is that his official visit to Florida State in early December wasn’t perfect, especially since the Seminoles got blown out and there was a minor stir when photos from that night appeared on social media. That said, the Seminoles might still have the edge. More than one person with knowledge of his recruitment said North Carolina could be more of a factor than people think. (CBS Sports)

Justise Winslow Cuts List, Includes UNC In Top 10
2014 SF Justise Winslow 6-6, 210 of Houston, TX has cut his list of potential college programs down to ten. Winslow lists North Carolina, Duke, Texas A&M, Kansas, Florida, Baylor, Stanford, Arizona, UCLA and Houston as potential destinations. Since being offered in July, not much has emerged in terms of Winslow’s interest in UNC. (Keeping It Heel)

North Carolina commit Nate Britt recruiting Andrew Wiggins
Every top high school basketball showcase typically has Huntington Prep and Oak Hill Academy (W.Va.) slated for games. The Hoophall Classic is no different and Oak Hill point guard and North Carolina commit, Nate Britt uses this as an opportunity to get the 6-foo-7 Wiggins to join him in Chapel Hill.“That’s who we’re trying to get,” said Britt on Monday following a loss to Simeon at the Hoophall Classic. “ (NBC Sports)

UNC Basketball: Marcus Paige Needs To Look To The Calmness Of Ed Cota Facing NC State
On February 12, 1997 Ed Cota hit a baseline floater with 4.6 seconds left to break the hearts of Wolfpack fans as North Carolina defeated NC State 45-44 in Reynolds Coliseum.
