Tar Heels top Blue Devils on Senior Night

by Milan Patel

The Tar Heels dominated the Duke Blue Devils, beating them 91-73 on Senior Night in Chapel Hill. As amazing as the victory over rival Duke was, the balanced scoring showed how versatile this team could be. Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, and Kerwin Walton each scored 18 points.

With the senior night ceremonies, emotions prior to the start of the game were very high, and the the limited fans in attendance were out of their seats the entire game. A frenetic, fast-paced traditional Carolina offensive showing was put on display.

The Tar Heels never trailed, and were in control the entire game. And a Duke team that was firmly on the tournament bubble at that point was knocked off according to most bracketologists after the game.

To make the victory even sweeter, Sterling Manley entered the game with under two minutes remaining, along with KJ Smith. After missing last year with injuries and having almost no minutes all season, he was ushered on to the court with a roaring ovation. He gave the fans what they wanted, putting down an alley-oop pass from Andrew Platek, and then hustling back down on defense for a block which ignited the bench and the crowd.

Garrison Brooks had maybe the most memorable response to it all, as he was shown on the bench with tears rolling down his face.
