UNC Basketball freshman Armando Bacot is expected to play on Friday night after having to leave the win over UNC-W with a head injury.
The North Carolina Tar Heels are expected to get a boost to their lineup for Friday’s home game against Gardner-Webb.
Freshman center Armando Bacot had to leave last Friday’s victory at UNC-Wilmington in the first half after he was hit in the head and did not return. Bacot’s status has been unknown leading up to UNC’s third game of the season this Friday night against Gardner-Webb, but now we have some clarification.
According to Jon Rothstein, Bacot will return and will be available to play for Friday night’s game in the Dean Dome against the Runnin’ Bulldogs:
That’s significant news for UNC both on offense and defense. Outside of Cole Anthony, the Tar Heels haven’t found much consistency scoring the basketball. Graduate transfer Justin Pierce had a big game vs. UNC-W but no one has really stood out and been able to score consistently in both games.
Getting Bacot back also helps take a minutes load off of junior Garrison Brooks. When Bacot went out, Brooks stayed in longer as UNC’s depth in the front court isn’t very good. Bacot now gives UNC another rebounder in the paint as well.
In just two games this season, Bacot is averaging 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in his limited time. He’s shooting just 37.5 percent from the field as well. The freshman has shown some signs of becoming a good player and we have to remember he’s just two games into his first season.
