UNC basketball picked up another win on Monday night, as Lady Tar Heels toppled Navy 80-40 at Carmichael Arena
Taylor Koenen recorded 21 points and eight rebounds, and Janelle Bailey added 20 points and 15 boards in the Tar Heels’ 80-40 rout of Navy on Monday night.
Koenen hit 9-of-13 shots from the floor, and knocked down the only three-pointer she attempted on the game. She hit 2-of-3 free throws, and added three assists and a block in 26 minutes of play.
Bailey was as efficient as ever, connecting on 7-of-9 shots from the floor and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe. She added two assists, two blocks and a steal in 27 minutes on the court. And she committed just one turnover on the night. North Carolina also got 13 points from senior guard Madinah Muhammad, who hit a pair of three-pointers in a game that was never in question.
The Tar Heels were up 29-9 after one quarter, and led Navy 48-19 at halftime. That would be all the points they’d need to win the game, but they added 21 more points in the third, and totaled 80 for the game in front of 1,562 UNC faithful at Carmichael Arena.
Navy’s leading scorer for the game was Jennifer Coleman, who had 10 points. No other Navy player scored in double-figures. They hit just 15-of-57 shots from the floor, and 4-of-17 from beyond the arc. The loss drops them to 2-1 on the young season.
North Carolina, on the other hand, stays undefeated after a pair of strong showings in the first week of play. Next up for the Lady Tar Heels is a home matchup with Charleston Southern on Friday night.
