The UNC football program got a pledge from 3-star defensive lineman Kaimon Rucker on Wednesday night, the Tar Heels’ third such commitment in the past 10 days
The North Carolina football program received its 19th commitment from a class of 2020 prospect on Wednesday night when 3-star defensive lineman Kaimon Rucker gave his verbal pledge to head coach Mack Brown and the Tar Heels.
His commitment to North Carolina came just a week after attending the Tar Heels’ Showtime Camp in Chapel Hill where he received the offer from Brown and the UNC coaching staff. A 6-foot-2, 248-pound defensive end, Rucker had better than 25 scholarship offers including ones from Louisville, Navy and South Florida.
Rucker’s pledge to the Tar Heels gives North Carolina its third commitment on the defensive line in less than two weeks. Defensive end A.J. Beatty committed to North Carolina on June 9, and defensive end Sean Martin followed suit a week later.
Thanks to the recent flurry of commitments, North Carolina’s 2020 recruiting class has risen to No. 8 in the nation according to the 247Sports team rankings. The class now has four 4-star prospects, and 15 3-star prospects.
As a junior at Hart County High School in Hartwell, Georgia, Rucker compiled 81 tackles, eight sacks and 19 tackles for loss. He was named 8AAA Defensive Player of the Year, and earned first-team All-State honors. He’s a top-1,500 prospect in the nation per the 247Sports Composite. He’s No. 79 among players at his position, and 156th in the state of Georgia.
