2017 ACC Football: Coastal Division Power Rankings week 4
Little Bitty
Mark Walton may not be small by most standards, but at 5-foot-9 and 205-pounds, for a running back he isn’t big either. But that’s ok. As the song says it’s ok to be little bitty and Mark Walton is doing just fine.
Playing in his first game since a 41-13 beat down of Bethune Cookman (due to a hurricane), Walton led the Hurricanes to a 52-30 win over previously undefeated Toledo.
The smaller back finished with 204 yards on just 11 carries against the Rockets. That is a whopping 18.5 yards per carry which is insane.
For the season Walton has 352 rushing yards in just two games. His 13 yards per attempt ranks first among all college players and is more than two yards more per carry than the next closest player. With a less experienced quarterback in toll, Mark Richt has been wise to lean on Walton.
Speaking of that less experienced quarterback, Rosier was also quite efficient against the Rockets, throwing for over 300 yards and passing for three scores. He did have an interception, but otherwise he did what was needed and leaned on Walton.
Walton will get to show just how little bitty he is next week when he and the Hurricanes travel to play the undefeated Duke Blue Devils this weekend.
