Sylvia Hatchell to be Inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame

UNC Women’s Basketball head coach Sylvia Hatchell has accomplished a lot of things in her storied career. However on Sunday, she will add the icing to the cake when she is inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

On Sunday the enshrinement ceremony will take place at 2 P.M. eastern from the Springfield Symphony Hall in Massachusetts. It will be televised on NBA TV. Other festivities for the weekend will be featured online and on the network.

Hatchell is set to begin her 39th career season as a head coach, her 28th with North Carolina, as she seeks to continue adding wins to her record of 908 wins. She is the has the most wins of any active coach in the league.

She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004, named the national coach of the year three times and led teams to 20 victories 29 times. At North Carolina she has collected a national championship and eight ACC Championships. In 2007 she led the Tar Heels to an undefeated ACC season dominating the conference in all fourteen of their match-ups.

This year she is joined by Gary Payton, Rick Pitino, Jerry Tarkanian, Dawn Staley, Guy Lewis, Bernard King, Roger Brown, Dr. EB Henderson, Oscar Schmidt, Richard Guerin, and Russ Granik in the 2013 Naismith class.
