A couple of weeks ago, I tweeted KIH’s founding editor and asked him who he thought was the Tar Heels’ best 3-point shooter. It’s an interesting question because for the first time in a long time the UNC basketball team has more than one go-to guy for the trifecta. With the loss of Tyler Zeller and John Henson, this year’s team is going to have to rely on something that was often a thorn in their side during the 2011-2012 season: perimeter shooting.

In 2011 Giovanni Bernard put up 1,253 yards rushing and added 362 yards in receiving along with 13 touchdowns during his Freshman season. It should be noted that his team also started a first year player at quarterback and his head coach was fired the day before training camp. Bernard’s total yardage of 1,615 was only 99 yards short of the total number of yards LaMichael James of Oregon put up during his freshman campaign. While Bernard ground out yards in a pro style set, James flourished in Chip Kelly’s no huddle spread offense. With Larry Fedora arriving in Chapel Hill could Gio Bernard become the LaMichael James of the east coast?

In his first season as a starter Bryn Renner was more than solid. He threw for a school record of 26 touchdowns and 3,086 yards (only about 400 behind the record TJ Yates set in 2010). For those of you who may have forgotten, he only had one incomplete pass in his first ever start, going 22 for 23. I expect Renner to continue to improve in the 2012 season and the rest of his career at UNC. The question I pose today is do you think Renner will play in the NFL?
