UNC head coach Larry Fedora will be entering his second season in Chapel Hill. He took over for then-head-coach Butch Davis and inherited a team that was bowl ineligible. It was a struggle for Larry Fedora at times, especially on the secondary’s defense, but most in the Tar Heel state would agree that it was an incredibly exciting season—one moving in the right direction. However, the question becomes: what’s this year look like?

If there is anyone on this current Tar Heel roster that ACC defenses will need to make sure they key in on, it’s Quinshad Davis. Davis had about as explosive a year as any Tar Heel freshman has had at the wide receiver position. They may not have been Hakeem Nicks stats, but Q finished with 776 yards on 61 receptions and 5 touchdowns in the inaugural year of Coach Larry Fedora’s offense and proved to be a dynamic and reliable weapon for Bryn Renner.

Mandatory Credit: Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

What impressed me most about Davis’ play on the field was that he had to compete for touches with a deep and talented Carolina receiving corps. He had to lineup opposite of a very proven and dependable receiver in Erik Highsmith and a deep threat in Sean Tapely and if that wasn’t enough, guys like Eric Ebron and Gio Bernard were both extremely talented targets for Renner to throw to. Yet, Davis still produced.

The big breakout game for Davis came against the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville where he took in 16 receptions (tied school and ACC record) and tallied up 178 yards in a performance that absolutely demoralized the Cavs. Ironically, Davis did not get a touchdown in that game, but his play really opened things up for his teammates to rack up 37 points en route to a blow out.

Davis certainly won’t fly under the radar this season and will certainly be the #1 guy on opposing teams’ scouting reports, but he will be expected to produce nonetheless. Having Tapely, Ebron and the return of TJ Thorpe on the field with him will certainly help to distract away some defensive pressure, but secondaries aren’t likely to take their eyes off him for more than a split second. Of course, a split second may be all that Davis needs to get free.

Expect Quinshad to continue to impress this season and improve his totals in all major statistical categories. Check back with KIH for more football previews.

Former North Carolina Tar Heel forward and current Golden State Warrior Harrison Barnes is living a career high already in just his rookie season.

He set multiple career highs in the regular season, he set a career high of twenty-six points in a game at the start of the playoffs, and did I mention he made the playoffs in his first season in the National Basketball Association?

However, a great start came to a slamming fall last night against the San Antonio Spurs, temporarily. It was game six of the series and the Warriors were down nine points with just over a minute left in the second quarter. Running into block a run to the rim by Boris Diaw, Barnes slammed into Diaw and fell immediately to the floor. He didn’t just fall into the floor, but actually went head first into the floor.

The result was a parade of teammates and coaches as he laid motionless for several minutes. Afterwards he was able to get up on his own power and walk himself to the locker room where he received six stitches and passed a concussion test before he would re-enter the game later in the second half.

San Antonio held onto their lead to win game six.
