Saturday. As most Tar Heel fans know his name is Andrew Wiggins. He is as big time as it gets, he is the consensus #1 recruit for 2013 and likely the best HS recruit since Kevin Durant. For the longest time National experts and recruitniks alike have believed his
recruitment to be a two team race between UK and FSU. Now, only one part of the belief seems to be correct.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. We all know that is the definition of crazy. So the follow on question when put in context of UNC basketball… “Why does Roy Williams keep starting the same five expecting a different result?” I don’t believe there is a coach, fan, or otherwise that has an answer to that question. The only one that truly knows is Roy Williams. I realize that for fans it is a truly frustrating time to be backing UNC and currently Roy isn’t making it any easier. Roy Williams is a Hall of Fame Coach who has many faults but it seems is biggest is his stubborn loyalty.

First off I would like to say I am really not a fan of breaking down 8th graders and Freshmen. With that said some kids you see are just special and one that I have seen play a couple times now that you just know will be special is Wesleyan Christian Academy (Winston-Salem, NC) Freshman Harry Giles. Giles, a class of 2016 product, stands 6’8” and weighs in at 205 lbs. Giles plays his AAU ball with CP3 and it is only there I have really seen him challenged. Obviously you have to be a special product to be on the radar so soon. The reason I am profiling Giles is because he is that special product and with him being just down the road in WInston-Salem UNC coaches have already taken notice as well
Let me rephrase that, UNC is absolutely HORRIBLE at defending the 3-point shot in the Roy Williams era. They have had years where they have been decent but like this year most years they have been atrocious. The better question is why is UNC lacking so bad in this facet of the game?

I will preface this by saying I do think this young team will continue to get better as the year goes a long. With that said there is no fixing what is wrong with this year’s version of the Tar Heels. There is obviously player development and tweaks to lineups

It is no secret that while a young team and with growing pains on the defensive end the current edition of the Tar Heels biggest problem is offensive production. Clearly UNC’s best combination in the low post is that of Brice Johnson and James Michael McAdoo but on the perimeter it still seems like Roy is trying to figure it out. This team has to be successful from the perimeter if it wants to succeed because it doesn’t have the post depth that previous UNC teams have. I don’t pretend to know more than Roy and I am sure he is still in the process of figuring out the proper rotation for what is still a very young team. There are some things however that are pretty clear.

This guy is good, I mean this guy is 5 Star good. I mean take it to the house every time he touches it potential. TJ Logan people that is who I am talking about. He can do it all, run, catch, and even play in the defensive backfield (though don’t expect to see him on defense at UNC). Think Romar Morris speed with a ton more wiggle. The guy just has it. He is faster that even UNC great Gio Bernard, he may not be quite as elusive but when he gets a hole he can hit it and their is no catching him.
