A new UNC Basketball recruiting target shined over the weekend at a tournament in Indiana as he received some national praise

Just a few weeks back the UNC Basketball program sent out their latest offer to a 2021 recruiting target as Roy Williams and his staff officially offered four-star recruit Trey Kaufman.

The Indiana product has seen a jump in his recruitment as of late with the latest offer coming from the Blue Blood Tar Heels. As it stands now, Kaufman currently has 11 offers in his recruitment including from Indiana, Purdue, Louisville, Virginia and North Carolina amongst others. The race to land Kaufman is on and the way his recruitment is going, he would be a big get for one program.

Over the weekend Kaufman participated with Indiana Elites in the Battle of the Brands Tournament  in Noblesville, Indiana. The main event took place during the night session as Indiana Elite’s 2021 took on 2021 Indy Heat team in a battle of two programs with some legit Division 1 talent.

Among them was Kaufman who helped lead Indiana Elite to a few victories in the day. Kaufman scored 30 points in a 95-44 win over  Indy Heat’s 2021 Red team.  He followed that up by dropping 22 in a 100-74 win over Indy Heat:

The play by Kaufman earned him some recognition as 247 Sports recruiting analyst Brian Snow wrote on his game:

"Along with Duncomb, his frontcourt mate Trey Kaufman also had a big game. From the beginning it was obvious that Indy Heat didn’t have a true power forward, and that meant problems containing Kaufman.Kaufman scored mostly going to the rim, but he did hit a few mid-range jumpers. His improved athleticism and strength were on display, and Kaufman showed why he is at the center of a high-major recruiting battle consisting of Indiana, Purdue, North Carolina and Virginia."

Kaufman is starting to establish himself as one of the top players in the state of Indiana as well as in the Midwest. He’s currently ranked No. 58 overall, No. 10 at power forward and the No. 2 player in the state of Indiana per 247 Sports.

It’s tough to tell where UNC stands in the recruitment right now but we have to imagine they do have a legit shot to land him and pull him out of the Midwest.
