An offer from the UNC Basketball program is amping up this 2021 shooting guards recruitment right away.

With the 2020 recruiting cycle wrapped up for the North Carolina Tar Heels, Roy Williams and his staff have turned their attention to the 2021 class.

The Tar Heels have one commitment secured for the 2021 class as four-star in-state prospect Dontrez Styles pledged his verbal in April. But recently, North Carolina offered a prospect out of the Tar Heel state as they have their eyes set on another target.

Three-star shooting guard D’Marco Dunn is the latest player to earn an offer from North Carolina and now the program is starting to make him a priority and are staring to ramp up the pursuit of Dunn.

After living in Arizona, Dunn’s family moved to North Carolina in August of 2019 because his mother got a job at Fort Bragg. Since then, he’s elevated his play and has caught some national attention.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is ranked as the No. 146 overall player in the 2021 class per 247 Sports but does have 17 total offers. He’s drawing interest from programs like UNC, Louisville, Maryland, Texas, Houston and Marquette among others.

But it’s the Tar Heels offer that is really amping up Dunn’s recruitment.

In an interview with the Fayetteville Observer, Dunn’s coach at Westover talked about the impact the offer from North Carolina will have on his recruitment:

"“People around here, everybody knows Carolina, even the casual fan,” Stackhouse said. “That did amp up the attention.”“It’s crazy how his recruiting has gone through the roof,” Stackhouse said. “I think rightfully so because he’s really skilled. He checks a lot of boxes.”"

Dunn is coming off a junior season in which he averaged 20.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.7 steals for Westover. That included scoring 20 or more points in all five of the team’s playoff games.

If he continues to play at a high level and elevate his game, we should see Dunn start to climb the rankings even more as he enters his senior year.
