The UNC football program got a commitment from a 3-star quarterback on Sunday night

Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels got their latest commitment over the weekend, a pledge from 3-star athlete and standout quarterback Caleb Hood. Hood made his announcement via Twitter on Sunday night.

"“First off, I just want to thank God for blessing me with the chance to further my education and athletic career at the collegiate level,” Hood wrote. “I want to thank everyone who has recruited me up to this point and I also want to thank my family and friends for supporting me along the way. With that being said, I will be continuing my education and athletic career at the University of North Carolina.”"

Hood, whose father, Errol, was a three-year starter at cornerback for the Tar Heels beginning in the late 1990s, joins 4-star safety Dontavius Nash as members of the Tar Heels’ 2021 recruiting class.

North Carolina was among 10 schools that offered a scholarship to Hood. In choosing the Tar Heels, he turned down Duke, NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others. UNC is recruiting Hood as a defensive player.

As a junior at Richmond Senior High School last season, Hood completed 123-of-217 (56.6 percent) passes for 2,175 yards and 21 touchdown passes. He also ran the ball 111 times for 976 yards — an outstanding 8.79 yards per carry — and 16 touchdowns. He’s a three-time all-conference player in the Sandhills Athletic Conference, and was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.

A 5-foot-11, 212-pound prospect out of Rockingham, North Carolina, 247Sports ranks Hood as the 482nd overall player in the class of 2021, the No. 45 athlete in the class, and No. 32 in the state of North Carolina.
