The UNC Basketball team will unofficially tipoff their 2019-20 season with the annual Late Night With Roy event a little earlier than usual this year

Fans will get their first look at the 2019-20 North Carolina Basketball team a little earlier than normal this year.

According to a report from Inside Carolina, the University of North Carolina is planning on hosting this year’s Late Night With Roy event on Friday, Sept. 27 just a day before the football program hosts defending National Champion Clemson in Kenan Memorial Stadium.

The annual event for the Tar Heels’ Basketball program is usually held in October and serves as the unofficial tipoff for the upcoming season.

Ross Martin of Inside Carolina wrote on the event although no additional details were provided regarding time or schedule:

"Last year the doors opened at 4 p.m. for Late Night with Roy and the festivities began at 7:30 p.m. In the past, the UNC volleyball team has played a game inside the Smith Center before Late Night with Roy begins (though this year the volleyball team has an away game on the 27th). The event usually opens with the women’s basketball team, which is entering its first season under new head coach Courtney Banghart."

While the even also showcases the UNC volleyball team as well as the women’s basketball team, the main event comes with the men’s basketball team. The team usually puts on some skits including some organized dances before scrimmaging at the end.

It also serves as a big recruiting night for the program as multiple top recruits over the years have visited during the weekend. As it stands now, no recruit has scheduled an official visit to Chapel Hill for this weekend but as the news broke on Tuesday morning it does open up the door over the next few weeks for that to happen.

Recruits could also use an unofficial visit for the weekend as well, which is something we have seen in year’s past as well.
