5-star guard has positive things to say about Roy Williams, and the UNC basketball program

5-star class of 2020 prospect Jaden Springer is still a long way from making a decision on where he’ll attend college next year, but he’s racking up plenty of offers in the mean time.

The talented shooting guard from Bradenton, Florida is preparing for his final year of high school at IMG Academy, and hoping to build on the success that he had as a junior. Playing with a plethora of talent around him — including 5-star center and UNC commit Armando Bacot — Springer and IMG won the Geico National High School Championship in 2019.

"“I feel like I had a real good season,” Springer told Rivals’ Corey Evans. “We won the whole thing and I was playing with three McDonald’s All-Americans and a bunch of great talent. Playing with guys like them really helped me to become a better basketball player.”"

He’s got scholarship offers from all over the country piling up, including ones from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Kansas, Kansas State, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, UCLA and Virginia Tech.

Springer talked to Evans about the state of his recruitment, the current timeline he’s working with, and some of the teams pursuing him the hardest — including North Carolina, and the relationship he’s developed with Roy Williams and the Tar Heels to this point.

"“One of the best programs in college basketball,” Springer said. “Whenever you get an offer like that, it is big time. To receive that, I was blessed to get that and I talked to Roy Williams, it was pretty good. He talked to me and said that he has been watching me for a while and that he wants to come out and have a face-to-face conversation and stuff like that.”"

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Springer is a terrific offensive player with great size, tons of athleticism and a tremendous ability to score the ball — whether it’s by creating his own offense, or with the help of his teammates. He’s capable of scoring in bunches, can cut through the lane with ease, and finishes in traffic and through contact.

He’s already taken trips to Maryland, N.C. State, Tennessee and Wake Forest, and hopes to visit more schools in the coming months.

"“I don’t know yet but I might be taking some soon but I don’t have anything planned,” Springer said. “Probably towards the end of the summer, I will probably start narrowing it down and cut my list.”"

He’s currently ranked No. 12 overall in the class of 2020 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the fourth-ranked player at his position, and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Florida.
