Recruiting analyst says Cole Anthony’s commitment is coming soon, and the UNC basketball program will be the beneficiary

As the NCAA Tournament gets ready to begin, and the college basketball season winds down, so, too, does the 2019 recruiting cycle.

With that comes the announcement of several of the class’s top prospects, including 5-star recruit and No. 1 point guard Cole Anthony. The player considered by some to be the best pro prospect of the group, Anthony has a top-6 that includes Georgetown, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oregon and Wake Forest.

Despite having a final list of a half-dozen programs, his recruitment has seemingly been down to just two schools — North Carolina and Oregon — for quite some time now. The Tar Heels had long been considered the favorite in his recruitment until a couple of months ago when all of the buzz surrounding Anthony was about the Ducks.

That’s all changed now, though, as everything we’ve heard over the past month or so is that North Carolina has weathered the storm, and sits in a really good position with Anthony in the late stages of his recruitment. That notion was recently reinforced when Rivals recruiting analyst Corey Evans gave his thoughts on the Anthony recruitment, including when and where he believes the elite back court prospect will commit.

"“It seems that the next would be Cole Anthony,” Evans said. “The other five-star prospects remain in a complete stall pattern and while that could definitely be the case for the top-five guard, Anthony looks to be ready to commit. UNC is who will receive his pledge and that decision will come much easier now that it is all about certain that Coby White will be a one-and-done. Oregon is doing all it can to delay his commitment, but it is rather inevitable; Anthony will be a UNC Tar Heel and could come as soon as by the end of the month where it would not be a giant surprise for him to announce at the McDonald’s All-American Game.”"

With just a few weeks left in the college basketball season, and the likelihood that UNC’s superstar freshman Coby White enters his name into the 2019 NBA Draft, an Anthony decision in favor of North Carolina around the start of the new month seems reasonable to expect.
