A four-star quarterback that is committed to Florida State is officially visiting the UNC Football program this weekend. Can UNC pull him away from the Seminoles?

The North Carolina Tar Heels have had their share of struggles at the quarterback position ever since Mitchell Trubisky left after his junior year in 2016.

This season, UNC has used Nathan Elliott, Chazz Surratt, Jace Ruder, Cade Fortin and now Manny Miles in games. Surratt is out for the season with a hand injury and both freshmen, Ruder and Fortin, have appeared in limited action after suffering injuries. It’s been Elliott that has started and appeared in most of the games.

With their struggles this season as a team, figuring out the quarterback position is going to be key for a quick turnaround next season.

The Tar Heels are in the running to land former Clemson quarterback Kelly Bryant who will make his decision in December. But now they are starting to pick up some momentum with a Florida State commit.

According to Inside Carolina, four-star quarterback Sam Howell is officially taking a visit to Chapel Hill this weekend and is in attendance for UNC’s game against Western Carolina on Saturday.

Howell committed to the Seminoles back in April but UNC has shown interest in the in-state quarterback and now that attention is paying off, at least in the form of a visit. The Sun Valley High School star just broke Chris Leak’s North Carolina state record for passing yards.

This is Howell’s first official visit in his recruiting cycle but he’s also planning on taking a trip to Tallahassee to visit the Seminoles next weekend when they host the Florida Gators.

Howell is set to sign in December on the early signing day but he’s been hearing from both UNC and N.C. State a lot as the programs are trying to lure him away from the Seminoles. Despite that, Noles 247 is reporting that Howell is still “solid” on Florida State.

The Tar Heels haven’t been able to snag a quarterback in the 2019 recruiting class, so adding Howell would be huge. Both Fortin and Ruder have showed some promise in their limited time this season and aren’t bad options moving forward.

While Howell is visiting Chapel Hill, it’s still likely he ends up signing his letter of intent with the Seminoles unless the Tar Heels can wow him with his visit.
