According to Vegas, Tar Heels are best bet to win it all

The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program will participate in a NCAA-record 20th Final Four this weekend in Phoenix, Arizona after wins over Texas Southern, Arkansas, Butler and Kentucky.

And in the wake of their exciting, last second victory over the Wildcats, the Tar Heels are now the prohibitive favorite to win the 2017 National Championship.

Make no mistake, though, the Tar Heels haven’t played their best basketball in the tournament. But maybe that is just one more reason that many consider them the best bet to cut down the nets in Phoenix next week.

Although they’ve found themselves in dog fights against Arkansas and Kentucky, perhaps it’s their perseverance and ability to fight through adversity that has experts, analysts and odds makers placing their faith in the Tar Heels.

Going into their game against the Oregon Ducks, the top-seeded Tar Heels are a +140 favorite to walk away with the national title next Monday.

The tournament’s other No. 1 seed, Gonzaga, has the second best odds at +180. That’s a pretty good sign for the Zags, given that their odds to begin the tournament were +1,000.

In third, No. 3 seed Oregon’s odds are +550 and the constantly undervalued and underappreciated South Carolina Gamecocks are at +750.

It’s understandable, though, given that the No. 7 seed was never expected to make it this far and very few seeds that low get to the Final Four.

Of course, these are just odds that are made for gambling and talking points.
