Former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris has committed to UNC

After the early departure of North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky, the Tar Heels have been hoping to hit a home run in the offseason by signing another big name quarterback that’s looking for a new home.

Today, they found that player in former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris. He arrives on campus with one remaining year of eligibility, hoping to make the most of his time in Chapel Hill.

"“Obviously, it has been an important time for me, looking for a great situation and another opportunity to grow as a young man and as a student as well as a football player,” Harris said in a Facebook post. “The opportunity to accomplish that is very important to me. After my official visit this weekend to the University of North Carolina, I’m going to get that opportunity. With that being said, I’m fully committed to UNC this upcoming year and I look forward to the opportunity to play for coach Fedora and UNC. Thank you, to all of those who have kept me in your prayers and continue to do so. I have to say that I haven’t been this excited in a while and can’t do anything but thank God and my wonderful family for their continued support.”Sep 3, 2016; Green Bay, WI, USA; LSU Tigers quarterback Brandon Harris (6) throws a pass during the first quarter against the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field. Baylor, Arizona, Temple, UConn, UTSA had also reached out to Harris in hopes of attaining the senior play-caller’s services. Harris also claimed that a number of SEC schools had reached out to him, but was not specific as to which ones.

Harris had 2,756 yards, 20 TDs and 10 interceptions in three years at LSU, but started just two games last season before being replaced by backup quarterback Danny Etling.

There is no doubt that head coach Larry Fedora plans to start the senior quarterback in 2017, particularly with the lack of experience currently on the North Carolina roster.
