McAdoo and Hairston set to face off in NBA Summer League

James Michael McAdoo and P.J. Hairston will face off today when the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets meet up in the NBA Summer League at 8:30 tonight. Both McAdoo and Hairston were members of UNC’s 2011 recruiting class, and the two were teammates from 2011-2013. The game will be broadcast on NBA TV.

Hairston will be playing for the Hornets after being selected 26th in the 2014 NBA Draft. He has had an eventful month since being drafted with many off-court incidents, but Hairston now looks to put all that behind him with a strong Summer League showing.

James Michael McAdoo doesn’t have the luxury of being drafted or the security that Hairston has. McAdoo was signed as a free agent after the draft and will use the Summer League as an audition to the NBA’s 32 franchises, trying to prove that he can make it in this league.

Here is a picture of Roy Williams and McAdoo at a recent Warriors practice.

The Hornet’s Summer League roster features ninth overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft Noah Vonleh, as well as 4th overall pick from the 2013 draft Cody Zeller. Zeller is the brother of former Tar Heel big man Tyler Zeller. Big names on the Warrior’s roster include Aaron Craft, that pesky point guard from Ohio State, and Festus Ezeli, 30th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

Both the Warriors and the Hornets will be participating in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, which kicks off today and runs until July 21st. The league offers the opportunity for teams to work with new draft picks and help draftees transition from the college to the pro game. Also, the league gives a chance to undrafted players for them to prove themselves to NBA scouts and executives that they are worthy of an NBA contract.

Keeping It Heel will have the results and report back on the performances of the two former Tar Heels after the game tonight, so be on the lookout for that!
