The New York Knicks don’t have a pick in this years NBA Draft, but sources claim the Knicks are highly interested in former North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston. The Knicks are targeting Hairston hoping to trade for draft picks to land him and get the roster filled with young players.
The Knicks traded their first round pick for Carmelo Anthony, who just opted out of his contract with the team. However, if the Knicks can perform a sign and trade for Melo, they could acquire draft picks. That would be the obvious route for the team.
One of the teams that is a frontrunner for Melo is the Chicago Bulls who own to mid-first round draft picks, which is what the Knicks are targeting. Without the guarantee Hairston is there in the second round, the Knicks would likely take Hairston with one of those pics if they acquire them.
Other teams that are possible trade partners would be the Thunder, Jazz, Suns and Hornets.
Hairston gives the Knicks another scorer and a young player that they could build around. They took Michigan’s Tim Hardaway Jr. in last years draft as he averaged 10.2 points per game. Hairston and Hardaway would be some nice pieces to build around in the future.
With the level of interest high from the Knicks, it wouldn’t be a shocker if Hairston landed there in the first round.
