UNC Football: Tar Heels ranked in Sporting News preseason Top 25

The Tar Heels are already ranked in one college football preseason Top 25, and that should get Tar Heels fans anxious for the upcoming season. Sporting News recently released their preseason Top 25 just two days ago and the Heels earned a spot on their ranking.

Sporting News writer Matt Hayes has UNC at number 24 to kick-off the early rankings, and Hayes seems to like the look of this Carolina team.

Here is what Hayes has to say in his write-up on the Tar Heels:

Larry Fedora is quickly building a solid (and dangerous) program in Chapel Hill. Quarterback Marquise Williams has the potential to be a 3,000/1,000 player (yards passing/rushing), and the offense gets another boost with talented freshman tailback Elijah Hood (a January enrollee) giving the unit a breakaway threat. Fifteen starters return from a team that, with a couple of breaks, could have won 10 games last year.

It should give Tar Heel fans a little bit of confidence that at least one media outlet has them ranked in a preseason poll, especially after a disappointing season last year.

Defending National Champion Florida State comes in at number three, joining the Tar Heels as the only other ACC team in the poll. Will the Tar Heels crack into any other media preseason polls? Stay tuned.
