The North Carolina Tar Heels secured a series win over the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday night, winning 6-4 in front of a lively home crowd in Chapel Hill. Parks Jordan’s RBI single in the 5th inning gave Carolina the lead, and Reilly Hovis came in and shut the door for the second night in a row to get the save. UNC will finish the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 P.M. going for the sweep.

Back to back doubles by Landon Lassiter and Todd Zengel gave UNC its first run of the night, and in the 5th, Skye Bolt singled in Alex Raburn to cut the Hokie lead to 4-3. UNC would end up scoring three in the 5th to go up by a run, and held on for their third win in a row.

Tomorrow afternoon, Zac Gallen will be on the mound for the Tar Heels to complete the sweep. Gallen is 4-3 with a 4.83 ERA on the season. He has pitched 54 innings and has 34 strike outs in 2014 for Carolina.

Every win for the Tar Heels is important for seeding and positioning for the ACC tournament. The tournament, this year held in Greensboro, is rapidly approaching and the Heels appear to be peaking at the right time ahead of the postseason. A sweep against the Hokies would go a long way for UNC’s confidence heading into both the ACC tourney and the NCAA tournament after that.
