Diamond DeShields to transfer from UNC

Earlier today in not-so-shocking news, Jabari Parker announced that he would be leaving Duke to enter this year’s NBA draft later this year. However, in an announcement not expected by anyone, UNC women’s basketball star freshman – Diamond DeShields – announced that she would be leaving UNC after just one season and transfer to another program.

Nobody knows exactly what led to DeShields to make the decision to leave UNC, but it does hurt the Lady Tar Heels heading into the fall. Head coach Sylvia Hatchell will be back this fall and will do so never coaching the best player in women’s college basketball.

“I do not know or understand why Diamond DeShields has decided to leave the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m in complete remission and will be back 100 percent for next season. It breaks my heart that I will not have the opportunity to coach Diamond and help develop her on and off the court. I love her and wish her well.” – Sylvia Hatchell

DeShields averaged 18 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in her only season as a Tar Heel.
