UNC Basketball: What to Watch for Against Duke

The Tar Heels come into Cameron Indoor Stadium on Saturday riding a 12 game winning streak, but have struggled the last few games. Duke is coming off of a loss at Wake Forest. UNC Basketball will need to come prepared to face an angry Blue Devils team on senior night. Here are some things to watch for:

1) Marcus Paige:
Paige will need to be big in Cameron Indoor on Saturday in order for the Tar Heels to come away with a victory. Duke will focus the attention of their defense on him. Duke might use a form of the Box and 1 defense Notre Dame used against the Tar Heels, which held Paige to 7 points on 2-8 shooting from the field. It will be important for the Tar Heels to find ways to get him the ball and open shots

2) Perimeter Defense:
Duke is one of the best 3pt shooting teams in the country, coming in averaging 39.5% from behind the arc as a team. In the first match up earlier this season in Chapel Hill, Duke shot 22 3pt shots, but only made 5. That comes out to 22.7%. The Tar Heels need to go over and fight through screens in order to put pressure on the shooters. If UNC does not defend the perimeter well, Duke will have a big advantage.

3) Free Throw Shooting:
It is talked about a lot, but free throw shooting, especially in Cameron Indoor, will play a big factor in this game. UNC will need to be aggressive and attack the rim to get to the foul line. And they will need to make a much better percentage of them to have a better chance to win the game. 62.1% from the free throw line will cut it inside of Cameron Indoor.
