UNC Basketball: Predictions for Rest of Schedule

Fresh off defeating their arch nemesis, the North Carolina Tar Heels are now winners of 8 games in a row and are a team to be reckoned with. Carolina is 19-7 overall (9-4 in the conference) in 4th place in the ACC and with 5 games remaining, here’s how I think they’ll do.

vs Wake Forest: Most people would say watch out for a let down in this game. But in this case I’m not buying it. I’m sure Carolina will still be feeling itself less than 48 hours removed from defeating Duke. However, I’m just as sure the Tar Heels haven’t forgotten about the lackluster performance they had in ACC opener at Wake Forest. Payback will be the theme of the day in Chapel Hill and I believe UNC will have very little trouble handling the Demon Deacons. Prediction: Win

at N.C. State: These two teams are headed in totally different directions. Carolina is peaking at the right time and the Wolfpack are fading fast. It’s a rivalry game and the environment will be hostile, but if UNC plays with passion and intensity as well as contain T.J. Warren – they should leave Raleigh with a hard-fought victory. Prediction:Win

at Virginia Tech: Honestly, this should be the least challenging game left on the schedule. The Hokies are 2-11 in the ACC (good for last place) and they seem like they can’t wait for the season to be over. For UNC the mission is simple: go to Blacksburg and take care of business. If they mess around and lose this game it could affect their seeding in the conference and NCAA tournaments.Prediction:Win

vs Notre Dame: It will be fifth year senior Leslie McDonald’s last home game, so you know the Dean Dome faithful will want to send him out in style. The Tar Heels took down the Fighting Irish in the first meeting by speeding up the tempo and playing great defense. UNC has more talent and is just too athletic for Notre Dame.So if Carolina uses the same formula, the outcome should be the same. Prediction: Win

at Duke: Speaking of payback, you better believe the Blue Devils will try to extract some when they host the Tar Heels in the season finale. It’s always tough to play in Cameron Indoor but with revenge on Duke’s mind, it will be tougher than normal to come out of this game victorious. If UNC can defend the 3 point line like they did in Chapel Hill ( 5-22), their chances of winning greatly increase. Jabari Parker is going to get his, but Carolina can’t let him take the game over. Although I believe that UNC is the better squad, it’s hard for me to see them winning in Durham. Especially with the woes from the throw line. Prediction: Loss
