The North Carolina Tar Heels have now won five straight games after defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 73-62 on the road Saturday. After watching their season fall apart in December and a terrible start to conference play, five consecutive wins is big for this North Carolina team that has needed motivation.
Despite the adversity faced by this year’s basketball team, they’re still on the bubble of making this year’s NCAA Tournament. Right now they’re looking at a ten seed, but one more loss could send them packing.
North Carolina has three of the best wins in the country, but that doesn’t appear to be enough to safely keep them in the NCAA Tournament. It’s four of the seven losses that has the selection committee questioning whether or not the Tar Heels should be invited to the tournament. Belmont, UAB, Wake Forest, and Miami defeating North Carolina stand out much more than North Carolina defeating Michigan State, Louisville, and Kentucky.
Wednesday, the first of two annual rivalry games against the Duke Blue Devils will take place in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels undoubtedly still need to win more games and win big games remaining on their schedule.
